Tarian, Southern Wales Regional Organised Crime Unit, together with partners from the University of South Wales, will be delivering a webinar to help businesses and members of the public improve their knowledge of Phishing. The webinar will include 2 live 'hacking' demonstrations, to illustrate what happens behind the scenes when we are the victim of these attacks.
With many people working remotely during the lockdown, it's now more important than ever to ensure you protect yourself online and avoid becoming a victim of cybercrime. A large majority of these attacks can be negated with straightforward advice and being able to identify phishing emails from genuine ones. During this session we aim to show you just how phishing attacks work, how criminals steal information using this attack vector & use it to commit crime, and some of the simple steps you can take to boost your cyber security.

DS Warren Davies and DC Symon Kendall are Cyber Protect Officers in the Cyber Crime Unit of Tarian, the Southern Wales Regional Organised Crime Unit (A collaboration of the 3 southern police forces in Wales – Dyfed Powys Police, Gwent Police and South Wales Police). As part of a national policing network, their role focuses on making the Southern Wales a safer place online. They link directly to both the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and Action Fraud to obtain the latest cybercrime reports and national guidance.
They regularly speak at conferences & business events to raise awareness of current cyber threats, provide national advice and best practices so that Local Authorities, businesses and individuals as to how they can best protect themselves, their information and assets. They also work closely with victims of cybercrime to understand how they were targeted and to help them become more secure.
Tarian is partnered with the University of South Wales to provide the Not2Phish platform. Ana Pereira and Jack Tabash have been instrumental in the development and building of the platform, which offers cyber security training to Small and Medium sized businesses in Wales, fully funded by the Welsh Government.
