This event looks at the emerging use cases of blockchain as a potential liberator for data and traditional business models, seeking to answer the question: how can blockchain benefit my data and beyond?

In this session, we are joined by world-leaders in blockchain applications that utilise distributed ledger systems to enable data commoditization, interoperability and solve problems that were previously thought indecipherable.

This event features a series of 15 minute talks from industry leaders:

  • Transforming Healthcare with Blockchain - Ron Austring, Senior Architect & Consultant at EHRData
  • The Future of Social Media and Taking Back your Data - Josh Petty, CEO of Twetch
  • Tackling Climate Change Using Blockchain - Charles Adams, Blockchain Marketing Consultant at the Zero Carbon Project

In these talks, we'll be learning how the blockchain is being used to tackle major problems we face in modern society, and how these go beyond the base use of blockchain to facilitate payments by combining them with valued data.

There will be a chance for the audience to submit questions to our speakers, each of whom will be taking a short Q&A session after their talks.

The speakers will then be invited to take part in a panel session, where the audience will be invited to submit questions to the panellists on the wider topic of 'blockchain for data use cases'. We hope that this will stimulate a discussion between our speakers on the overarching potential of blockchain.

More detailed descriptions of the talks are given below:

Transforming Healthcare with Blockchain

How the public blockchain can provide a brighter future for healthcare.

Speaker: Ron Austring

The modern healthcare system, and wider industry, suffers from an inherent lack of interoperability and the proliferation of unshared, under-utilized data silos. In this talk, we'll learn how some companies are exploring the public blockchain to liberate this data, to the benefit of patients across the globe, and provide a fully interoperable, global, electronic health record (EHR) system.

Ron Austring is president of Daedalos, Inc., a technology consulting company. He's founded several pharmacy software companies including Zadall Systems Group Inc., G/H Plus Pharmacy Systems, American Data Systems, PDX Inc., RxStudio and Drugstore.com. Ron also worked for Walmart, Inc. as a consultant and as the Senior Director of Technology

The Future of Social Media and Taking Back your Data

The power of online value and letting users take back their data with Twetch.

Speaker: Josh Petty

The internet today has many problems associated with it. Most of these can be associated with the inability to monetise, and effectively value, user data. This is what the Twetch aims to solve, and in the process usher in the future of social media, by helping users take back control of their content and realise its monetary potential.

Josh Petty is an American entrepreneur building the next generation of Social Networking and Data Ownership tools. Josh is a co-founder of Twetch.com and Matterpool.io.

Tackling Climate Change Using Blockchain

How the Zero Carbon Project uses blockchain to tackle climate change.

Speaker: Charles Adams

Zero Carbon Project is tackling climate change by rewarding consumers for switching to zero carbon energy. Consumers are rewarded with a stake in the success of the Zero Carbon Project. The stake is in the form of Zero Carbon Coin utility tokens which are underpinned by smart contracts deployed on the Ethereum blockchain.

Climate change poses a major planetary problem without a solution or plan. UN Climate Change scientists have stated that our civilisation may reach the point of no return by the end of this decade, 2030. This is based on evidence and analysis presented in the last UN IPCC Special Report on climate change.

Governments around the world have responded to the climate change threat with centralised regulatory solutions, which has relied on taxing, subsidising and passing through charges on electricity bills. However, this hasn't had the required impact, as most people are still unable to afford the price premium involved in switching to more expensive renewables.

Zero Carbon Project provides a more effective solution compared to these penal regulatory solutions. Our solution uses the idea of rewarding people for switching to zero carbon energy. It is a market based, economic solution to the problem.

Charles developed a keen interest in cryptocurrencies at the beginning of 2013. This was sparked by the need for a decentralized, trustless currency in response to the instability of various world governments at the time. Since then he has been an early adopter and fan of masternodes and projects such as Ethereum. He is also an avid member of the London crypto community and has presented and been a panel member at events such as the Blockchain and Sustainability Conference and the Malta AIBC Conference.
