Sam joined the business, then known as INMOS, in 1984 as a process engineer. He is a quality and business excellence professional. A Senior Director with over 30 years of experience in the semiconductor sector.
Sam developed Newport’s management systems based on IATF16494, EFQM and other customer best practise models. He has facilitated the site strategic business plan through the use of McKinsey and Hoshin techniques. He also assisted the leadership team to transform Newport into a 100% On-time Delivery, Zero Defects operation. In addition, Sam acts as the main external business officer working closely with the CSconnected community, Welsh and UK Government.
Sam graduated from Cardiff University in 1982 with an Honours Degree in Chemistry, joining INMOS after completing a Research Masters in Thermodynamics.
Prof. Owen J Guy FRSC, is Head of Chemistry and Professor of nanotechnology at the College of Science and Engineering in Swansea University, working in nanotechnology and advanced materials for healthcare applications. Owen is Director of the Centre for Nanohealth at Swansea University; a unique facility applying device fabrication & clean room semiconductor processing to healthcare problems in collaboration with industry. Owen’s research is using semiconductor materials and processing technologies to develop next generation healthcare devices for diagnostics and drug delivery. His specific research expertise is in graphene, biosensors, silicon nanowire devices, MEMS, microfluidics and microneedles and photovoltaics. Owen has grant income of more than £17 million, has published over 60 journal publications, holds 2 granted patents. Owen has founded 3 spin-out companies and works with a host of industry partners in the semiconductor and life science sectors.
Chris' career in electronics and semiconductors started at British Telecom Research Laboratories before joining a new joint venture between BT and US based DuPont in 1986.
Chris was part of the founding team at Epitaxial Products International Ltd (EPI) in Cardiff in 1988 which became IQE plc in 1999 following the merger with a US competitor and a successful IPO. Cardiff headquartered IQE is listed on the London Stock Exchange’s AiM (IQE.L) and comprises multiple operations in the UK, Asia and the USA.
A science and engineering graduate, Chris also holds an MBA and has held a number of senior management positions within the IQE Group.
He is a Director of CSconnected Ltd, representing the world’s first compound semiconductor cluster that is rapidly evolving across South Wales and the West of England.
